Would someone who is opposed to government sponsored healthcare please tell me why? The argument I see on TV is about bureaucracy which, as anyone who has ever dealt with the insurance agencies knows, is complete bunk. So if its not bureaucracy, what is it? From what I can tell, government sponsored healthcare would be cheaper for everyone even with a corresponding rise in taxes.
So I decided to put windows on my ubuntu box so I could play some diablo 2. Also Pirates!
I repartitioned the drive, foolishly giving vista only 10gigs. One failed install later, I decided to repartition again with 25 gigs. This is where things went bad. Vista installed just fine the second time, but when I went in to repair grub, things did not go well. I can mount both partitions just hunky-dory using the LiveCD, but when I go to boot it seems bios doesn't find any operating systems. Trying to repair the windows booting ended in failure. Windows starts to boot then bluescreens and dies. Vista install cd doesn't know what the hell I did to fuck things up so badly but doesn't have the time nor the inclination to fix it.
Back to grub. Grub finds the ubuntu install and its own damn files just fine, but when it goes to write itself to the MBR apparently runs into some trouble. I'm feeling like I should just wipe the whole drive, repartition and start from scratch. There won't be any serious loss of data since I can mount the partitions from the LiveCD and suck everything important out. Thu, Apr. 30th, 2009, 12:49 pm
So Alyson Hannigan just had a baby. The other main actress on How I Met Your Mother is also pregnant. Now I'm watching Mythbusters and, after a quick check of wikipedia it turns out that Kari Byron is pregnant too. What I find amusing is what tipped me off in all three case: the weird camera angles. I noticed Alyson Hannigan first (she was also the furthest along) and only picked up on the others because I saw that they were doing the same things with the camera.
So apparently, the new television game is "hide the pregnancy". I will be champion.
I proposed yesterday. She said yes. Awesome. Mon, Jan. 26th, 2009, 10:59 pm More food
So food is like swords, right?
Most people don't even know how to swing a sword; they'll be happy with anything you put on the table. Some people have had training and learn to appreciate a good sword, even if they can't cook one themselves. The rest of the population has attained some ability to make swords, ranging from poor and brittle to keen and flexible. But these people are still mere foodsmiths. There is no shame in this. I myself am a foodsmith. But I hope that someday I can be a Domingo Montoya of food, making the most exquisite food the world has ever seen.
And yes, if I am slain by a six-fingered chef I fully expect my son to spend his whole life training in food so that one day, he can go up to Takeshi Kaga and say...
Okay, yeah, thats a bit ridiculous. I want a burger.
With all the rumbling going on about crazy russians taking over livejournal and then using it is a launching point for nuclear... you know what? I have no idea what is going on. I do want to create some sort of food blog/public recipe file. I haven't ever used any kind of recipe filing system so I'm wondering if basic blogging tools are good for this or if there is something I'll end up missing. In other news, Qdoba has apparently eliminated their mole poblano sometime in the last couple of years. This is unacceptable. I have what appear to be several good recipes online but as we already know, preparing one's own mole sauce can be difficult and fraught with danger. Does anyone know of a half decent store-bought variety? Anyone at all? Mon, Dec. 29th, 2008, 06:00 pm Israel
So yes, from an objective perspective Israel's response to the daily rocket attacks is grossly out of proportion.
On the other hand, its like driving by the mafia don's house once a day and shooting a bullet through the door. You're not really doing much damage, but should you really be surprised when he blows up the car with your wife and kids in it? I mean, what the fuck did you think he was going to do?
Which is why it is clear to me that the leaders of Hamas don't give a damn about the people they claim to fight for. Instead of constructive long term goals, their only idea is to wipe Israel off the map. And they're trying to do this by means of shooting rockets randomly into Israeli territory. I think their goal is nothing other than control of the Palestinian people, without actual regard for the welfare of those people.
And so when you ask me which side I'm going to support, I have to choose Israel. Sure, they're handling this in the worst possible manner and its not even going to be successful. I'm stunned they didn't learn this lesson when their attempt to suppress Hezbollah in Lebanon two years ago failed in such a spectacular fashion. But despite their horrible impotence to do something useful, at least their end goal is peace and co-existence. I'll back that against blind hatred any day.
I'm sure many if not most of you have seen my Hat. Unfortunately, I can't really wear it in the winter because my ears freeze off. I have a beanie which while comfortable isn't as awesome as the hat. So the question becomes, will I look more ridiculous in ear muffs + hat or the beanie?
Charlotte commands you to vote! You must do so!
But uh, not for President Vendetta. That, I think, would be a bad thing. Mon, Oct. 6th, 2008, 05:50 pm
Is it just me, or is using an ipod a lot damn more complicated in ubuntu than it should be? Mon, Oct. 6th, 2008, 12:19 am
"I don't think there is such a thing as pro bono hooking. I think then you're just a slut."
When the topic is takeout/delivery all too often the question is, "pizza or chinese?" I say, why not both? Therefore, a Livejournal Food Challenge! Anyone can participate! We want chinese food and pizza combined. Bonus points if it can be done in thirty minutes or less! Fri, Sep. 19th, 2008, 07:34 pm Avast! Ahoy!
Why be it that none of you scurvy, land lubbin' Spaniards be talking like a pirate this day? Sat, Sep. 13th, 2008, 11:46 am Beer Blog
Bought a beer brewing ensemble. The first batch is bubbling away in the fermenter now, so I didn't screw it up entirely.
Notes for the future: Need more water. Lots more water. Just buy some this time. While you're buying the water, buy some ice too.
Otherwise, pretty good. If this batch turns out at all drinkable I'll call it a success. Either way, I'll probably cart it up to 3-3 and it will disappear that way, good or bad.

Experimenting with different blends of lapsang souchong and keemun for justice. Using weight because of the differing leaf-size. 1.3g LS 1.7g keemun 12oz boiling water aroma is predominately that of keemun but I can detect just a hit on the smokiness. Hmm. I don't really have a tea vocabulary, do I? I'd say this is a decent first attempt. If I'm not in the mood for a lot of campfire taste, this might be just the ticket.
